Breath & Trust the Process

The rest of the year we’ll be focused on sharing our methodical, strategic approach to growth and achievement. But in these first moments of a new year, I wanted to begin with the reality that achievement is a process. What I mean is, you can't necessarily just force it. Sometimes you have to be patient, trust the process, keep doing what you know to do and breath.

 

If you've ever been out in rough ocean surf, just off the shore, then you are familiar with one particular depth at which you're most vulnerable to the waves lifting you off your feet and tossing you about. Leaving you practically powerless against the force of the ocean. With every ounce of your energy, you can try to "walk" your way out past the breaking point, but you find that you're at the mercy of the rolling mountains, dictating where your next step will land.

 

Growing up near the ocean, I was taught from an early age that the only way to move past that point of powerful opposition is to do the unthinkable - take your feet off the ground and dive in. Dive straight down into the base of that cliff of water as it folds over you. Once under the surface, don't fight it, keep your wits, keep your bearings, and trust that it will pass. When you next see the light of day to take a deep breath, the crashing waves are behind you.

 

There is no question that intentional achievement is driven by a systematic exercise of strategy, discipline, energy and determination. So much so that it's worth taking a moment to remember that growing into achievement can't be forced. Trust that if you keep doing what you know to do, and keep breathing, achievement will come. So take a breath with me here... before we dive in.
